Today sucked. I woke up this A.M., went to the bathroom and was instantly sick. I had all the classic symptoms that I experience when having a Celiac attack. Sweating, chills, nausea, severe stomach pain. I was so bummed getting mad at myself for having an attack. I suffered from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.. I should have gone to the emergency room a lot sooner but just didn't want to go. I have been so many time in the past and have not had to go in nearly as much as before my diagnosis. Finally after my 6th shower my boyfriend Jacob gave me no choice.
They treated me great and within an hour of arriving at the ER. I had my IV, blood draws and my first injections of nausea and pain medication. It helped a bit and an hour later got my 2nd injection of nausea and pain mediation. That 2nd treatment really helped and I started to feel much much better.
When we got home Jake and I just could not figure out where the Gluten came from. We finally realized that while visiting a friend yesterday I ate gluten. My friend Jessika (you'll hear more about her later.) was being nice and made up a cheese, ham and cracker plate. I DID not eat 1 cracker, but I did have some ham. So when we got home we called Jessika and one of the Evil ingredients was in the ham. Modified Corn Starch. The meat was pre-packaged sandwich meat.
I was very happy that I figured out what happened and will avoid all luncheon meat unless it comes from the butcher.
Going to the ER is no fun, and I am still learning what I can eat or what foods I need to check on.

What was really the bummer, is that today is Tiggerooo's 1st birthday. So I didn't even get a chance to go get him treats or toys. My baby kitty is growing up.

To all who have this dreadful disease: HELP PLEASE! I was dx with this about 6 months ago by begging a second doctor for a blood test after laying in my bed for 2 years and seeing one specialist after another in agony. I thought I was going crazy. I am 48, have been healthy, for the most part, aside for my constant yearly bronchitis or pneomonia that would put me under for at least a good month, but strungled and always worked,etc... 2 degrees. 3 children, I think you understand. I thought for the last four months I was doing very well and about 5 days ago, I was hit with this awful agonizing THING again. What caught my eye to your attack, were my symptoms that I have been battling these last 5 days and of course the 2 years that everyone including my family and friends just thought I was either insane or lazy, all I wanted was for G_D to take me from this world. So, now again I can't eat, sleep, I get cold, too hot, it's now 1:36am in NJ, I have called the er and dread the thought of sitting in a room full of sick people on Memorial day weekend, especially with a weekened immune system. I guess i just needed someone to share and hope these symptoms somehow passes... Do they? I have been over and over what I have ate these last 2 weeks. I also have a severe migraine, which I have suffered with in the past. A neurologist had given me topamax, and now these last 5 days, it is not working. Funny how it always seems to happen on a holiday... maybe i'm not as smart as i think i am, and i should have called one of my doctors or gone to the hospital like you. I just thought maybe you had some suggestions out there. i'm suffering and very lost. thankyou and G_D BLess

I am so sorry to hear about your attack. I can only tell you my advice is coming from strictly my own experiences. Once my attack gets to the degree of diarrhea, nausea, sweating and the sever stomach pain I usually have to go to the ER to get relief. By this time for me I am dehydrated so my electrolytes are all out of whack. The pain for me once it gets to a certain level won't go away without pain medication IV. Nor the Nausea. But I know the dread of going to the ER especially on a holiday weekend. What I do for relief in the deciding stages is a hot bath, in the dark or with a small candle helps me relax and also zone out. Or (this may sound strange) but with the light off I lay down in the bath tub and turn the hot shower on me and just lay there on my back of curdled up fetal position on my knees and let the water fall down my back etc. to relax. This really does work the best for me. Sometimes if I am lucky if I could just get to sleep "I can sleep off the Attack". Sometimes I wake up and it is still there. If you are not better in 2-3 hours depending on your symptoms CALL YOUR DOCTOR or PLEASE GO TO THE ER. The most important thing when you call or go in is to tell them You Are Having A Celiac Attack. Not food poisoning or Gastritis but a Celiac Attack.
Figure out later what could have triggered the attack, and get yourself some relief from your symptoms ASAP. Good Luck. Hope you feel better and this episode ends soon.
Sincerely
Kymberly

Unfortunately there is many times that I've had to told Kymberly that she is too far sick in an attack to beat it herself and take her to the hospital. There is times when she has been sick for over 24 hours before we had to bite the bullet and go get some professional help. It's pretty much when the non-stop uncontrollable dry-heaves and vomiting starts is when it's time to go see the ER.
Actually you can just count yourself as lucky that you got a firm diagnosis from a Doctor of Celiac. Kymberly has never tested positive in any of the test but she definably has it since she responds well to a gluten free diet and when she eats something that has gluten in it she gets sick as a dog within 12 hours or so.
The most important thing to remember is that it is not your fault and that you can overcome this. I know how incredibly desperate it can get and that I've literally lost track of how many times over the past couple years that I've had to rush her to the hospital and clean up the towels that she would puke into. However there are times where she won't have an episode for a long time and things get better.

I was DX'ed with Hasimoto's and I was told Celiac goes hand in hand with that DX. I have been gluten free for 3 weeks and am doing great, until tonight. I was at my sis in laws house and she offered me liver. I ate a few bites and it was delicious. I called and asked her if she made it again to call me. She began telling me the recipe, of this delicious meal. She said it was so simple to make.....and when she got to the part of dipping the liver in flour-I nearly died. I never in my life thought it would have contained flour.
My symptoms of severe gastric distress began at 9PM, and it is now 3:02 AM in NJ. My entire gastro tract is inflammed....never again!
